“Age is simply the number of years the world has been enjoying you!” - unknown

I remember in my 20s I started running. By my late 20s I could be seen running for hours, going all around the city. Distance no issue. At a pace that was fairly decent. I’d return home, tired, but at the same time, accomplished, invigorated, ready to do it all again the next day.

Oh how age has changed all of that. I still run, but now the joints shout at me if I go too far or too fast. Knees, hips, ankles have lots to say and there’s no silencing them. Running is still my friend but that bestie relationship I shared with it back in my 20s, that’s gone, and with certainty I can say, it’ll never return.

Age, the one thing that is for sure in this life time. No one is immune. And it has this terrible habit of creeping up on you when you’re not looking and poof, there it is looking back at you in the mirror.

But aging is not all doom and gloom. Age allows us to witness another sunrise, new friendships, new memories and new experiences. Age gives us more opportunities and more time to appreciate the beauty and the wonders. It allows us to learn more, to understand more. It helps us put things in perspective and to not sweat the small stuff.

As long as you have your health bring on age. With physical activity and healthy eating 60 has become the new 40 and 80 the new 60. Age is as they say only a number , a number not worth mentioning.

So running may not be our best friend any more, our joints may be acting up, those wrinkles more prominent, boobs sagging a little lower and the mid section a little broader, but how privileged are we to have age on our side. Age is my new best friend, until of course it lands up playing havoc on my health. At that point I hope to say thank you my friend and goodbye.
